First, a mini for your time
Hi oppo! I’m Laurence, a long-time lurker of Jalopnik and oppo (I’ve been here long enough to remember orlove rolling his bug, and I get most of the inside jokes). I only made an account recently as I figured it’d be best to grow up and actually have something to comment about first.
I’m in the uk, and although I haven’t got a car of my own yet, I’ll be sure to let you know when I do. Although I’m sure plenty of people here know more than me about them, I like to consider myself a bit of a mini expert.
I don't really know what else to say, but if anyone wants to ask me something, go ahead, if it isn't too personal, I'll respond

Hi, welcome!
Burning question: Why do you folks call it the “loo”?

I honestly don’t know; I didn’t even realise it was only a British thing
Also, thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to Oppo, former lurker!

I know just barely enough about Minis to know this is a later one based on hidden hinges. Other than that and some familiarity with demi-Minis like the Elf, Hornet, and the Innocenti Mini, I’m only somewhat above average.

Haha, thanks!

It might not be, I just associate it with Britain. The mystery continues...

Yep, that’s right; I’d need to see more to be certain, but from what I can tell, this one’s a mk3 (so early 70’s or very late 60’s) but the interior is throwing me off a bit. Either way though, it's a pretty nice mini; the clubman wheels look good on it

Congratulations, you’re hired. Can you start right away?
Welcome. Interestingly, your spelling of Laurence is less common on this side of the pond, and is the way my grandfather’s given name was spelled. It is also the middle name of one of my sons.

Probably derived from the French, lieu meaning place. British modesty you know.

Huh, that’s pretty cool; even over here, most people I meet with the same name spell it with a w. I’m yet to find someone else who spells it the same way.
And tell your son and grandfather I say hi!

I’ll tell my son, but Grampa passed about 25 years ago. I'm also setting my son up for a lifetime of having his middle name misspelled. And on top of that, his first name is Brendan, and he is constantly called Brandon.

Welcome!
Keep arms and feet inside at all times and don’t feed the animals.

I haven’t got a car of my own yet,
Whew, for a second there I thought this was a
first car
post.
Welcome to Oppo!

Welcome.
As I have to tell everyone based on your side of the Atlantic, the Montego is a 60’s Mercury muscle car not a weird economy car.

Oh, sorry about that. You have my condolences
At least my first name is the only one I ever have trouble with, my middle name and surname are fairly common and easy to spell

Haha, thanks! It does look a bit like that at first
